Emergency — If I'm Not Available

This page is for family. No technical knowledge needed.

If Things Are Broken

Most issues fix themselves — the system is designed to recover automatically. If something stopped working (Plex, photos, recipes, etc.):

  1. Wait an hour. Updates sometimes cause brief outages, and the system usually recovers on its own.
  2. Check GitHub. Go to the repository and look for any recent pull requests that failed. A red X next to a PR is usually the cause.
  3. Contact [trusted person]. If things are still broken after an hour, reach out to [contact info].

Shutting Things Down

The cluster runs on three small black computers in [location]. To shut everything down:

  1. Unplug all three machines.
  2. That's it.

Nothing will break permanently. The machines are designed to handle power loss. All data is backed up to the cloud automatically every 12 hours.

Turning Things Back On

  1. Plug all three machines back in.
  2. Wait about 15 minutes.
  3. Everything starts automatically — no buttons to press, no screens to look at.

If services don't come back after 30 minutes, contact [trusted person].

What This Cluster Runs

These are the services your family uses day-to-day:

  • Plex — TV shows and movies
  • Immich — Photo library (like Google Photos)
  • Mealie — Recipes and meal planning
  • Home Assistant — Smart home controls
  • Vaultwarden — Password manager

All of this data is backed up automatically. Nothing here is irreplaceable — the entire system can be rebuilt from scratch if needed.
